A Book Really Does Get Judged by its Cover

Overview

Glue Book Cover Reimagining

Context:

A reimagined cover for Irvine Welsh's novel Glue—a story about friendship, loyalty, and the bonds that hold people together across decades. The goal was to create a cover that feels energetic and visceral, reflecting the raw, vibrant world of Welsh's Edinburgh while honoring the book's central theme of connection.

My Role:

I designed the cover from concept to final artwork, including the custom display lettering, the dripping/melting effect, gradient treatment, and overall composition.

Result:

A cover that feels strong, kinetic, and unapologetic. The dripping type captures the dual nature of the story—things coming together and falling apart—while the neon gradient gives it a visceral, almost club-poster energy that fits Welsh's raw, electric prose.

Reflection:

This project reminded me how much I love working with type; you can make it do whatever you want. I can’t tell you how much I love Irvine Welsh!!!
